Health Minister Sakeena Itoo Inaugurates New Health Facilities in Kulgam and Anantnag Villages

Kulgam/Anantnag: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today emphasized that the Omar Abdullah-led government prioritizes strengthening healthcare across Jammu and Kashmir, with a special focus on rural and remote areas.

The Minister made these remarks while inaugurating several health facilities in villages across Kulgam and Anantnag districts of South Kashmir.

At Arwani village, she inaugurated the newly constructed New Type Primary Health Centre (NTPHC), built at an estimated cost of Rs 2.71 crore. MLA Bijbehara-Srigufwara Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri, CMO Kulgam, BMO Qaimoh, senior officials, and a large number of locals attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister said these facilities reflect the government’s vision of providing quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare at the grassroots level. She highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade medical infrastructure and reduce the burden on tertiary hospitals, particularly in rural and far-flung areas.

MLA Dr. Veeri also spoke on the government’s recent achievements in the healthcare sector.

Later, the Minister visited Fathepora and Brinty in Anantnag, inaugurating a newly constructed NTPHC and PHC, respectively. The events were attended by MLA Anantnag West Abdul Majeed Larmi, ADC Anantnag, CMO Anantnag, BMO Verinag, senior health officials, and locals.

Speaking at these locations, Sakeena Itoo said the new centers represent a significant step toward making healthcare delivery inclusive and accessible. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that every family has timely and affordable access to medical care close to home. She also noted that these centers will be equipped with modern diagnostic facilities, essential medicines, maternal and child health services, and trained staff to address both preventive and curative needs.

MLA Abdul Majeed Larmi also addressed the gatherings.

Earlier, the Minister conducted a surprise inspection of Government Higher Secondary School Fathepora, reviewing educational standards, interacting with faculty, and engaging with students to gather feedback on the quality of education being provided.
