Srinagar, Dec 6: The Jammu and Kashmir government has stated that the upcoming JKAS examinations must be deferred until the issue of age relaxation is addressed by the Lieutenant Governor. Officials said the decision reflects the administration’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity in the recruitment process.

According to government representatives, concerns have been raised by aspirants regarding the age criteria, with many demanding relaxation in line with national and state-level practices. The matter has been formally placed before the Lieutenant Governor for consideration.

Authorities emphasized that no examination schedule will be finalized until clarity is provided on the relaxation policy. They noted that the move is intended to ensure equal opportunity for all eligible candidates and to avoid exclusion of deserving aspirants.

Student groups and civil society organizations have welcomed the government’s stance, saying it acknowledges the grievances of thousands of youth preparing for competitive services. They urged the administration to expedite the decision to prevent uncertainty and maintain confidence in the recruitment process.

Officials reiterated that the government remains committed to transparent and merit-based recruitment, and assured that the issue will be resolved in consultation with all stakeholders. They added that the deferment is a temporary measure until the Lieutenant Governor issues directions on the matter.
