New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on Saturday announced plans to introduce AI-based eKYC and global credential verification features in the DigiLocker platform.
According to an official statement, DigiLocker has evolved from a secure document repository into a trusted digital layer connecting citizens with various ministries and departments.
The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under MeitY organised the National Conference on DigiLocker to highlight its growing role as a cornerstone of trust, convenience, and efficiency across government, education, and industry sectors.
The conference emphasised DigiLocker’s transformative impact in enabling paperless governance, inclusive education, and secure digital services.
“DigiLocker serves as a trust layer connecting citizens, ministries, and departments—enabling secure, interoperable, and accountable digital governance. Our vision is a future where every digital interaction is trusted, every citizen empowered, and every institution accountable,” said S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, who chaired the event.
Krishnan noted that DigiLocker represents India’s digital transformation journey — from connectivity to capability, from service delivery to self-reliance, and now from digitalisation to trust.
Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY, outlined future developments for DigiLocker, including AI-driven eKYC and global credential verification, positioning it as a global model for paperless governance.
The statement also mentioned presentations on DigiLocker’s integration with Pension and Treasury systems in Maharashtra and with over 500 services via Assam’s Sewa Setu Portal.
Seven states — Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Mizoram — were recognised as “DigiLocker Accelerators” for their notable achievements in adopting the platform.
DigiLocker enables citizens to securely access, verify, and share their IDs, financial credentials, and certificates — strengthening India’s digital trust infrastructure.
