NEW DELHI: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday announced that the government will take action against consultants who fail to follow proper procedures in preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for highways and tunnel projects.

A DPR serves as a crucial blueprint for infrastructure projects, detailing technical, financial, and logistical aspects essential for execution.

“In India, the quality of DPRs prepared by consultancy firms is not up to the mark. Even the contractors are not performing well,” Gadkari said at an event in the capital.

He added that a rating system has been introduced for DPR consultants. “Those preparing quality DPRs will be rewarded, while those not adhering to proper procedures will face penalties,” the Road Transport and Highways Minister said.

Gadkari also highlighted the importance of conducting socio-economic audits of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds, stressing that these resources should benefit economically and socially disadvantaged communities.

“CSR funds should be channelled into sectors like education, agriculture, and healthcare to uplift the underprivileged,” he added.
