Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has ordered the withholding of salaries of 18 Block Development Officers (BDOs) over their poor performance in completing the e-KYC process of Mahatma Gandhi NREGA workers, terming it a serious lapse in official duties.

According to an official order issued by the Secretary to the Government, the decision follows a detailed review meeting held on November 2, 2025, which found that several blocks had recorded progress well below the Union Territory’s average of 49.68 percent. The shortfall was described as a “dereliction of duty” by the concerned officers.

The BDOs from Kupwara, Trehgam, Rajwara, Herri Qadriabad, Panthal, Kalaroose, Harwan, Sogam, Mawar Qalamabad, Kralpora, Ramhal, Magam, Nadihal, Khonmoh, Reddi Chowkibal, Qaziabad, Srinagar, and Thakrakote have been barred from drawing their October 2025 salaries. Their November salaries will also remain withheld until they meet the prescribed e-KYC targets.

The move reflects the government’s emphasis on accountability and the timely completion of digital verification under the MGNREGA scheme across all districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
