Srinagar: The ongoing war of words between National Conference (NC) chief Omar Abdullah and BJP leader Sunil Sharma intensified on Monday, a day after Abdullah swore on the Quran denying allegations that he had sought an alliance with the BJP ahead of the 2024 elections.
On Sunday, Sharma had dared Abdullah to take an oath on the Quran, claiming that the NC leader had secretly approached the BJP in exchange for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Sharma reiterated that Abdullah himself had earlier admitted that BJP leaders had offered him a position, which he had turned down. He said he had also released additional video clips indicating that Abdullah had previously been open to political discussions with BJP leaders, including holding meetings in Delhi.
Sharma questioned Abdullah’s recent statements, saying they contradicted his earlier remarks. According to him, the video evidence showed Abdullah acknowledging the BJP’s offer and even referring to some BJP leaders as “stupid,” which Sharma said undermined his current denials.
Turning to the upcoming Budgam by-election, Sharma said voter enthusiasm was high and that the BJP’s campaign had received a strong public response. He added that the final outcome would rest in the hands of the voters, refraining from making any predictions.
