Srinagar, Nov 17: Kashmir’s diagnostic centres have appealed to the government to introduce a uniform, officially notified rate list for medical tests across the region. According to the owners and representatives of several private laboratories, the absence of standardised pricing has led to significant variations in test charges from one facility to another, creating confusion and financial strain for patients. They said that a government-issued tariff structure would not only ensure transparency but also help maintain quality standards by preventing underpricing that could compromise services.

The diagnostic centres further stated that uniform rates would bring much-needed regulation to the sector and protect patients from being overcharged. Several operators also emphasised that clear guidelines would help labs compete fairly while continuing to invest in modern equipment and trained staff. They have urged the Health Department to take up the matter at the earliest, keeping patient welfare and affordability in mind.

The stakeholders said they are ready to cooperate with authorities to arrive at a reasonable pricing framework that balances operational costs with public accessibility. They expressed hope that the government will intervene soon to streamline diagnostic services and ensure uniformity across Jammu and Kashmir.
