Srinagar: Moderate to heavy rains lashed several parts of Kashmir on Monday, prompting authorities to set up emergency control rooms in vulnerable areas, officials said.

Since morning, Srinagar, Kupwara, Baramulla, Anantnag and Pulwama districts witnessed heavy downpour. In Lolab’s Warnov forest area of Kupwara, torrential rains accompanied by thunder triggered panic, forcing residents to move to safer locations amid fears of a cloudburst.

The Indian Meteorological Department’s Srinagar Centre has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall across many parts of the valley over the next two days.

In view of the weather conditions, police in Pulwama and Anantnag have established emergency helplines for the public. Authorities have urged residents, especially those living near the Jhelum river and local streams, to avoid venturing close to water bodies until the weather improves.

“People are advised to exercise utmost caution during the weather advisory period from August 17 to 19, 2025,” Pulwama police said in a statement.
