Srinagar: The Border Security Force (BSF) has intensified its vigil along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir ahead of winter amid intelligence reports indicating possible infiltration attempts from across the border, a senior officer said on Sunday.

According to the BSF, inputs suggest that several terrorists are stationed at launch pads across the LoC, waiting to infiltrate into the Valley.

“Traditionally, infiltration attempts tend to rise before the onset of winter. Keeping that in mind, our jawans and officers have been put on high alert, and vigilance along the border has been enhanced,” said Additional Director General (ADG) of BSF, Satish S. Khandare, while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Wular 2.0 Marathon in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

He said that while it is difficult to specify the exact number, reports indicate that the “neighbouring country is preparing some launch pads across the border.”

“The threat of infiltration from across the border always exists, but both the BSF and the Army are alert and fully prepared to foil any such attempts. We are performing our duties with utmost dedication,” Khandare added.

The BSF officer also highlighted the success of the Wular 2.0 Marathon, which saw enthusiastic participation from scores of men and women in three categories — 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km.

“This is the second edition of the marathon. We organized it last year as well as part of our outreach efforts to strengthen ties with the people living near the LoC and border areas,” the ADG said.
