Microsoft Pushes Windows 11 As AI Platform With New Copilot Upgrade
Copilot — Microsoft’s answer to ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity AI — is getting a major boost as the company looks to attract more users to Windows 11 PCs. With Windows 10 support officially ending this week, Microsoft is betting big on AI-driven experiences to push upgrades.
The latest Windows 11 update introduces the “Hey Copilot” feature — a voice trigger that lets users interact hands-free with the AI assistant. Once activated, users can issue commands or chat naturally with Copilot, similar to Siri, Gemini, or Alexa. You no longer need to repeat the wake word during a conversation, and saying “goodbye” ends the chat session. The feature remains optional and must be manually enabled.
Microsoft says this update isn’t just about adding new features — it’s about making Copilot more natural and integrated. The company has also refined its Recall tool, which initially faced privacy criticism, to include stronger security measures and more robust functionality.
Copilot Everywhere
The AI assistant is now more capable, with visual awareness that allows it to “see” what’s on your screen and offer contextual help — whether you’re researching, editing documents, or tweaking photos. It’s similar in concept to Recall but now fully powered by Copilot.
Additionally, Copilot is coming to the Windows 11 taskbar, giving users quick access to both voice and vision features. A new expansion called Copilot Actions introduces Agentic AI — where Copilot can execute multi-step tasks from a single prompt, letting you focus on other work.
With these updates, Microsoft is positioning Windows 11 as the go-to AI-powered operating system, though competition remains fierce from ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Perplexity’s Comet AI browser.
