SRINAGAR: In a major move to promote alternative dispute resolution and ease the burden of pending cases, the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, under the leadership of Chief Justice Justice Arun Palli, successfully conducted a mediation drive from 1st July to 6th October 2025.
The initiative was launched nationwide under the guidance of Chief Justice of India, Justice B.R. Gavai, and Justice Surya Kant, Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman of NALSA, who conceptualized the “Special Mediation Drive – Mediation for the Nation”, a 90-day campaign aimed at settling pending cases across Taluka Courts, District Courts, and High Courts throughout India.
During the drive, a total of 960 cases were taken up for mediation. Of these:
8 cases were successfully settled through mutual agreement,
206 cases remained unsettled, and
646 cases are pending final settlement, awaiting affirmation from the parties involved. These cases are expected to be finalized once all formalities are completed.
The remaining cases were processed further in accordance with regular judicial procedures. The drive witnessed active participation from litigants, advocates, and mediators, supported wholeheartedly by court officials and staff.
Chief Justice Arun Palli, also Chairman of the Mediation & Conciliation Committee, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their valuable support and emphasized the hope to continue such initiatives to enhance access to justice and accelerate the disposal of pending cases through mediation.
