NEW DELHI: Vedanta Group’s Hindustan Zinc is set to commission its Rs 1,700-crore fertiliser plant in Rajasthan by December 2026, CEO Arun Misra said on Wednesday. The facility aims to support farmers by producing DAP fertilizer, which India currently imports.

Speaking to reporters at the FT Live Energy Transition Summit India, Misra said, “The fertiliser plant is under construction now, and we expect it to be operational by December 2026.”

The project’s first phase will see the launch of a phosphoric acid plant by March-April next year, followed by the production of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP). The plant will also manufacture NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) fertilizer. DAP, made from phosphoric acid and ammonia, is a widely used phosphorus fertilizer.

“India imports a significant quantity of DAP annually, and our plant will cater to this demand, as the domestic market is substantial,” Misra added.

On zinc prices, Misra projected an increase to USD 3,000 per tonne by December, up from the current USD 2,800, and noted that the company does not foresee any market downturn.

Hindustan Zinc reported a 4.7% decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 2,234 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, due to lower revenue. In the same period last year, the company had posted a net profit of Rs 2,345 crore. Revenue for Q1 FY26 fell to Rs 7,591 crore from Rs 7,893 crore in Q1 FY25.
