P Sara Oval, Nov 24: India clinched the inaugural T20 Blind Women’s World Cup title on Sunday, defeating Nepal by seven wickets in a dominant final at the P Sara Oval. After choosing to bowl first, India restricted Nepal to 114 for 5, allowing their rivals just a single boundary in the innings.
In the run chase, India reached 117 for 3 in just 12 overs, with Phula Saren top-scoring with an unbeaten 44 runs, guiding her team to a comfortable victory. Earlier, India had secured their spot in the final by defeating Australia in the first semifinal, while Nepal had beaten Pakistan in the second semifinal.
Co-hosts Sri Lanka managed only one win out of five preliminary round matches, defeating the USA. Pakistan’s Mehreen Ali, a B3 partially sighted player, was the standout performer of the tournament, scoring over 600 runs, including a 230-run innings off 78 balls against Sri Lanka and 133 against Australia.
The tournament showcased the growing talent and competitiveness in women’s blind cricket, marking a historic achievement for India on the global stage.
