HP OmniBook Flip X Review: AI Meets Flexibility

HP has refreshed its 2-in-1 OmniBook Flip X with Intel’s AI-powered Core Ultra CPU, aiming to bring next-gen performance to an already versatile device. But does the AI push actually elevate the experience?

Design & Build

The OmniBook Flip X retains its signature 360-degree hinge, allowing use in laptop, tablet, tent, or stand modes. The hinge feels sturdy and durable, while the metal chassis adds a premium touch. The brushed metallic finish looks sleek, though prone to smudges—especially on the blue variant we tested. At 1.38 kg, it’s reasonably portable, though weight distribution could be better, likely due to the hinge design.

Display

HP hasn’t compromised on visuals. The 14-inch OLED touchscreen offers 3K resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and slim bezels for an immersive experience. Colours are vivid, contrast is excellent, and brightness levels hold up well indoors and outdoors. The only drawback? The reflective panel, which lacks an anti-glare coating. Gorilla Glass 3 adds a layer of protection for accidental drops.

Performance & AI Features

Our unit packed an Intel Core Ultra 7 with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. The built-in NPU (Neural Processing Unit) handles AI workloads, freeing up the CPU for regular computing and keeping thermals under control. While 32GB RAM may feel excessive for casual users, it future-proofs the machine against long-term slowdown.

Gaming is possible but limited—this is clearly a productivity-first device. Windows 11’s Copilot integrates well with HP’s AI suite, offering handy productivity features. With higher RAM and NPU power, AI tasks feel noticeably smoother than on older models.

Keyboard, Ports & Usability

The redesigned keyboard and spacious trackpad feel comfortable for long sessions, though right-click gestures could use clearer definition. Privacy-conscious users will appreciate the webcam shutter. Port selection is solid: two USB-C Thunderbolt, HDMI, a standard USB-A, plus another USB-A and headphone jack on the opposite side. The bottom-firing speakers get loud but sound slightly muffled.

Battery Life

Despite AI optimizations, the OLED panel keeps battery life in check. We averaged just over 8 hours on a single charge. Standby drain was minimal at around 2–3% overnight. The bundled USB-C charger powers the device to 80% in about an hour, which is handy for on-the-go users.

Verdict

The HP OmniBook Flip X blends premium design with solid performance and forward-looking AI features. The included stylus makes creative tasks easy in tablet mode, while the 2-in-1 flexibility continues to be its strongest asset. Battery life isn’t groundbreaking, and smudges on the finish can be annoying, but overall, it’s a well-rounded productivity machine with future-proof AI chops.
