New Delhi: Days after several Bollywood personalities, including playback singer Kumar Sanu, approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of their personality and publicity rights, actor Hrithik Roshan has filed a similar plea.

Roshan has moved the court to protect his name, image, likeness, voice, and other personality attributes from being used or exploited for commercial purposes without his consent.

The case will be heard on Wednesday by Justice Manmeet Pritam Arora.

The petition names several known and unknown parties, including John Does (unnamed individuals), accused of using the actor’s persona for unauthorised commercial gain. Roshan has sought an injunction to restrain such misuse and safeguard his identity from being exploited through advertisements or online platforms.

Justice Arora is also scheduled to hear Kumar Sanu’s petition, in which the singer has complained about morphed videos and defamatory content circulating online in his name.

Earlier, the High Court directed Meta and Google to explain why URLs containing such “morphed videos” and “profane language” could not be removed by their grievance officers.

The growing concern over personality rights and digital misuse has drawn increasing judicial attention. Recently, while granting protection to actor Nagarjuna, the court highlighted the dangers posed by generative artificial intelligence (AI), noting that manipulated content can easily spread and cause lasting reputational harm.

Last month, the High Court issued similar orders in favour of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, restricting unauthorised online use of their names, images, and voices.

Hrithik Roshan’s plea marks yet another instance of celebrities turning to the judiciary to safeguard their digital identities and personality rights amid the growing misuse of AI and viral online content.
