Huawei Unveils Second-Generation Tri-Foldable Device Ahead of Samsung
Huawei has introduced its second-generation tri-foldable smartphone, arriving ahead of Samsung’s first foray into this segment this year. While Samsung is yet to unveil its debut tri-fold device, Huawei has showcased the Mate XTs, a device that builds on the HarmonyOS ecosystem while offering upgraded hardware, an enhanced camera system, and a more versatile form factor.
Huawei markets the Mate XTs as a “PC in your pocket.” While that claim could apply to most modern smartphones, the tri-fold design expands the concept significantly, turning your phone into a device almost tablet-sized when fully unfolded.
Huawei Mate XTs Price
The Mate XTs starts at CNY 17,999 (around ₹2.20 lakh) for the 16GB + 256GB variant. Higher storage and RAM configurations push the price beyond ₹2.50 lakh.
Specifications of Huawei Mate XTs
The Mate XTs offers multiple screen modes to suit different needs:
- Single mode: 6.4-inch display
- Dual mode: 7.9-inch display
- Fully unfolded: 10.2-inch display—almost tablet-sized
The device weighs 298 grams and measures 3.6mm in thickness when fully unfolded. It is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9020 SoC, with options for up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Stylus support is included, doubling as a remote for controlling various tasks.
Huawei ships the device with HarmonyOS 5.1, its latest proprietary OS. The camera setup is equally impressive, featuring a 50MP primary sensor, a 40MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP periscope telephoto lens.
The Mate XTs is equipped with a 5,600mAh battery, supporting 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. While there are no plans to launch the device outside China currently, Huawei’s tri-foldable sets a benchmark for the segment, giving competitors like Samsung a clear blueprint. The tech world now watches eagerly to see how Samsung’s first tri-foldable will perform.
