Huge Sacrifices Made to Ensure Peace and Progress in J&K: LG Manoj Sinha

SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday said that immense sacrifices over the past five years have paved the way for a peaceful, progressive, and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir. He urged all sections of society to unite against elements attempting to disturb peace in the region.

Sinha was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day international symposium on “Peace, People and Possibilities in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory”, organised by Vishwagram, a non-profit organisation.

In his keynote address, the Lieutenant Governor shared his vision of a peaceful, fear-free, and united Jammu and Kashmir, where every citizen is empowered and benefits equally from the nation’s progress.

“Enormous sacrifices have been made in the last five years to bring Jammu and Kashmir to its present state of peace,” he said, adding that the prevailing atmosphere of harmony has allowed people to live with dignity and mutual respect. “The impact of peace is visible everywhere — in people’s efforts for a better tomorrow and in the immense possibilities that lie ahead without any discrimination.”

Highlighting the transformative policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sinha said the principles of people-first governance, social justice, and equality have reshaped both lives and livelihoods in J&K.

Reaffirming his government’s commitment to dismantling the terror ecosystem, the Lieutenant Governor said, “We are determined to strengthen socio-economic growth and turn the dreams of our youth into reality.”

He noted that in the past five years, the combined efforts of security forces and the J&K Police have replaced the “sound of bullets and grenades” with the “sound of peace.”

“We have built a Jammu and Kashmir where school walls echo with the laughter and creativity of children, not the clash of stones. Towns like Pulwama, Shopian, and Kulgam — once silent — are now thriving as centres of culture and learning,” he said.

Calling the people of Jammu and Kashmir the heartbeat of peace, Sinha urged them to stand united against divisive forces, and to collectively confront challenges such as drug abuse and youth radicalisation.

He concluded by appealing to citizens to uphold the rule of law and contribute to the ongoing journey of peace, progress, and prosperity in the Union Territory.
