New Delhi: Actor Huma Qureshi, who returns as the formidable Rani Bharti in the fourth season of the political drama Maharani, says her approach to the role remains rooted in honesty and instinct, even as the story shifts its political backdrop from Bihar to Delhi.

Reflecting on Rani Bharti’s journey from an uneducated homemaker to a powerful political leader, Huma shared how she stayed true to her craft despite the character’s evolving landscape.

“The approach remains the same,” Huma told reporters. “You read your lines, understand the script, perform sincerely, and completely surrender to the character. I haven’t changed that. When something works, you don’t need to fix it—and I truly believe in that.”

When asked if Rani’s rise mirrors the real-life struggles of women in politics or serves as a broader narrative of empowerment, Huma responded, “I’m sure there are people whose lives resemble hers, though I haven’t personally met them. Maybe someday I’ll meet a real-life Rani Bharti while doing this multi-season show. Many aspects of Maharani draw from real events that have naturally found their way into cinema.”

Directed by Puneet Prakash and produced by Kangra Talkies Pvt. Ltd., the series is created by Subhash Kapoor and also stars Shweta Basu Prasad, Vipin Sharma, Amit Sial, Vineet Kumar, Shardul Bharadwaj, Kani Kusruti, and Pramod Pathak.

The earlier seasons traced Rani Bharti’s transformation from an accidental political entrant to a shrewd leader navigating Bihar’s ruthless corridors of power. The upcoming season promises to carry forward the same blend of political realism and compelling drama.

Huma Qureshi, who made her debut in Anurag Kashyap’s acclaimed Gangs of Wasseypur (2012), has since delivered versatile performances in Ek Thi Daayan, Dedh Ishqiya, Badlapur, Highway (Marathi), Jolly LLB 2, and Kaala (Tamil).

Maharani 4 premieres on November 7 on SonyLIV.
