UNITED NATIONS: India has stated that Pakistan’s military “pleaded” for a halt to hostilities during Operation Sindoor and reaffirmed that no third party has a role in matters between New Delhi and Islamabad.

The remarks came from Petal Gahlot, First Secretary at India’s Permanent Mission to the UN, in response to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address at the General Debate of the 80th UN General Assembly session. Sharif had credited former U.S. President Donald Trump with preventing a war between the two nuclear-armed nations.

“This Assembly witnessed absurd theatrics this morning from the Prime Minister of Pakistan, who once again glorified terrorism that is so central to their foreign policy,” Gahlot said in India’s Right of Reply.

In his speech, Sharif said Pakistan was open to a “composite, comprehensive and result-oriented” dialogue with India on all outstanding issues, while criticising New Delhi over Kashmir. He lauded Trump’s “efforts for peace,” even noting that Pakistan had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

India has consistently emphasised that the understanding on cessation of hostilities was reached directly through talks between the Directors General of Military Operations of the two sides.
