New York: India sharply countered Pakistan’s claims at the United Nations during a debate on women, peace, and security.

Speaking at the UNSC debate, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, criticized Pakistan’s “delusional tirade” against India, particularly regarding Jammu and Kashmir.

Ambassador Harish recalled Pakistan’s 1971 Operation Searchlight, highlighting the systematic mass rape of 400,000 women by its own army. He stressed that the world sees through Pakistan’s propaganda, which often relies on distraction and hyperbole.

“Every year, we are unfortunately forced to listen to Pakistan’s delusional attacks on India, especially over Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian territory they covet. Our record on the women, peace, and security agenda is unblemished. A country that bombs its own people and engages in systematic genocide can only attempt to mislead the world with exaggerations,” he said.

India’s remarks were in response to Counsellor Saima Saleem of Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to the UN.

The UNSC debate marked 25 years of Resolution 1325, adopted in 2000 to address the unique and disproportionate impact of armed conflict on women and girls, focusing on preventing violations of their rights during conflicts.

Earlier, in his address to the UN General Assembly in September, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had taken a pointed dig at Pakistan without naming it directly.

“India has faced this challenge since independence, having a neighbour that is an epicentre of global terrorism. For decades, major international terrorist attacks can be traced back to that country,” he said.

On the topic of state-sponsored terror, Jaishankar added: “When nations declare terrorism as state policy, operate terror hubs on an industrial scale, and publicly glorify terrorists, such actions must be unequivocally condemned. Those who condone terror-sponsoring nations will ultimately face consequences.”
