Dubai: Despite a stellar century from Pathum Nissanka, India edged past Sri Lanka in a thrilling Super Over in their inconsequential Super 4s encounter of the Asia Cup on Friday.
In the Super Over, left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh struck twice to limit Sri Lanka to just two runs, which India skipper chased down on the very first ball.
Earlier, put into bat, India posted 202 for 5 in 20 overs. In-form opener Abhishek Sharma led the charge with a 31-ball 61, featuring eight fours and two sixes. Contributions from Tilak Varma (49 not out off 34 balls), Sanju Samson (39 off 23), and Axar Patel (21 not out off 15) proved crucial in setting a competitive total.
Sri Lanka’s chase was anchored by Nissanka’s magnificent 58-ball 107. Kusal Perera also starred with a quick 32-ball 58, helping Sri Lanka reach 202 for 5 in 20 overs, forcing a Super Over.
India’s bowlers shared the wickets, with Kuldeep Yadav (1/31), Varun Chakaravarthy (1/31), Hardik Pandya (1/7), Arshdeep Singh (1/46), and Harshit Rana (1/54) all chipping in.
