Hangzhou: The Indian women’s hockey team launched their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a dominant 11-0 victory over Thailand in their Pool B match.
Mumtaz Khan (7′, 49′), Udita (30′, 52′), and Beauty Dung Dung (45′, 54′) each scored twice, while Sangita Kumari (10′), Navneet Kaur (16′), Lalremsiami (18′), Sharmila Devi (57′), and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (60′) also contributed to the scoreline.
India established early control with field goals from Mumtaz Khan (7′) and Sangita Kumari (10′) in the opening quarter. The second quarter saw their momentum grow, as Navneet Kaur (16′) and Lalremsiami (18′) scored back-to-back field goals, followed by a penalty corner conversion from Udita (30′) to close out the first half strongly.
In the second half, India continued to dominate Thailand’s circle, winning four penalty corners in the third quarter, with Beauty Dung Dung converting the first in the 45th minute. The final quarter was a goal fest, as India added five more goals—Mumtaz Khan (49′), Udita (52′), and Sharmila Devi (57′) scoring from penalty corners, while Beauty Dung Dung (54′) and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal (60′) netted field goals.
India aims to claim their third Women’s Asia Cup title, having previously won in 2004 and 2017. In the last edition, they finished third. The 20-member squad, led by captain Salima Tete, is targeting the trophy to secure India’s spot in the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026.
