India reiterates support for two-state solution, vows commitment to peace in West Asia

Reaffirming India’s consistent support for a negotiated two-state solution, Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh emphasized New Delhi’s commitment to promoting peace and stability in West Asia. He made the remarks at the meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Ministerial Committee on Palestine held in Kampala, Uganda.

Singh led the Indian delegation at the opening ceremony of the 19th Mid-Term Ministerial Conference of NAM, hosted by Uganda under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence” on Wednesday (local time).

In a post on X, Singh said, “Delivered the national statement at the NAM Ministerial Committee on Palestine in Kampala today. The Committee was established during India’s Chairmanship of NAM in 1983. Recalled India’s humanitarian support to the people of Palestine and reaffirmed India’s traditional position on the negotiated two-State solution in West Asia. India stands ready to contribute to achieving a peaceful and stable region.”

On the sidelines of the 19th NAM Ministerial, Singh met Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop to discuss the wide-ranging bilateral partnership between the two nations. He also held talks with Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali Mohamed Omar on expanding bilateral cooperation.

Uganda currently holds the NAM Chairmanship for the 2024–26 term.

Ahead of Singh’s visit, the Ministry of External Affairs stated that India, a founding member of NAM, remains deeply committed to its principles and values. The Ministry noted that the Mid-Term Ministerial, held under the theme “Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence”, brings together 121 developing countries on a platform of enduring historical significance.
