India Calls Out Pakistan’s “Clandestine” Nuclear Record After Trump’s Remarks

New Delhi: India on Friday reacted to US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks about Pakistan testing nuclear weapons, saying that Islamabad’s “clandestine and illegal” nuclear activities reflect a long history of smuggling and export control violations.

Trump, while defending his administration’s plan to resume US nuclear testing after more than three decades, had mentioned Pakistan among countries conducting such tests.

“Clandestine and illegal nuclear activities are in keeping with Pakistan’s history, which is centred around decades of smuggling, export control violations, and secret partnerships,” said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal at the weekly media briefing.

Responding to queries on the issue, Jaiswal added that India has consistently highlighted Pakistan’s record of nuclear misconduct to the international community.

“In this backdrop, we have taken note of President Trump’s comment regarding Pakistan’s nuclear testing,” he said.
