Brisbane: India sealed the five-match T20 International series against Australia 2-1 after the fifth and final game was abandoned due to rain at the Gabba on Saturday.
Sent in to bat, India got off to a fiery start as openers Abhishek Sharma (23* off 13 balls) and Shubman Gill (29* off 16 balls) attacked the Australian bowlers from the outset. However, lightning halted play with India cruising at 52 for no loss in 4.5 overs, and soon heavy rain followed, leading to the match being called off.
Earlier, Australia missed two golden chances to dismiss Abhishek early. Glenn Maxwell dropped a simple catch in the opening over, and Ben Dwarshuis put down another in the fourth when the left-hander was on 11. Just three balls later, Abhishek delighted the Indian supporters with a flat six over mid-wicket.
Gill, meanwhile, took the attack to Dwarshuis, smashing three boundaries in the third over to maintain India’s momentum.
The series saw multiple weather interruptions, with the first T20I also washed out. Australia took the second match by four wickets, but India bounced back to win the third and fourth games by five wickets and 48 runs, respectively, clinching the series.
Australia had earlier won the preceding ODI series 2-1.
