New Delhi: India held firm at the third position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 standings despite completing a 2-0 series whitewash over the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday.
It was a day of double celebration as Shubman Gill secured his first Test series win as captain on the same day head coach Gautam Gambhir celebrated his birthday. Although the comprehensive victory bolstered India’s points percentage, the team continues to occupy the No. 3 spot in the standings.
After seven Tests — with four wins, two losses, and one draw — India have 52 points and a points percentage of 61.90%. Unbeaten Australia remain at the top with a perfect 100% after three matches, while Sri Lanka sit second with 66.67%. The West Indies, meanwhile, languish in sixth place after suffering their fifth consecutive Test defeat.
The first Test in Ahmedabad wrapped up within two and a half days as India crushed the visitors by an innings and 140 runs. The second Test, however, saw a spirited fightback from the Caribbean side, who stretched the contest to the fifth day with a gritty second-innings effort before India sealed a seven-wicket triumph.
After opting to bat first, India piled up 518/5 (declared) on Day 2. The West Indies began promisingly but failed to convert starts and were dismissed for 248. India’s decision to enforce the follow-on — a move that drew mixed reactions from fans — tested their bowlers’ endurance.
Captain Roston Chase’s 40 and a resilient 79-run stand for the 10th wicket between Justin Greaves (*50 *) and Jayden Seales (32) lifted the West Indies to 390, setting India a 121-run target. KL Rahul’s fluent 58 off 108 balls ensured a smooth chase, sealing the series 2-0 and marking a memorable beginning to Gill’s captaincy tenure.
