New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has indicated it will “boycott” any resolution passed if the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held in Dhaka, a source revealed.

Uncertainty looms over the future of the six-team Asia Cup, scheduled to be played in the T20 format. India is the designated host, but the ACC has yet to announce the official dates or venue, though reports suggest September as the likely window.

The ACC meeting is set for July 24 in Dhaka. However, India has declined to attend due to the prevailing situation in Bangladesh. Recently, the BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) mutually agreed to postpone India’s tour of Bangladesh from August 2025 to September 2026.

ACC President Mohsin Naqvi—also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board—is reportedly putting “unnecessary pressure” on India to attend the meeting in Dhaka. According to the source, the BCCI requested a change of venue but has received no response so far.

“The Asia Cup can only proceed if the meeting venue is shifted from Dhaka. ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is trying to apply undue pressure on India. We’ve asked for a change of location but haven’t heard back. If the meeting goes ahead in Dhaka, BCCI will boycott any resolution passed,” the source stated.

India, the reigning Asia Cup champion, refused to travel to Pakistan for the 2023 edition, leading to Sri Lanka hosting India’s matches at a neutral venue. Earlier this year, India also opted out of traveling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, choosing instead to play its fixtures in Dubai.

In May, speculation circulated on social media suggesting India had pulled out of both the upcoming Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup due to ongoing tensions with Pakistan.

However, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed these reports as “speculative and imaginary,” clarifying that the BCCI had not made any such decision or communicated withdrawal from ACC events.
