Doda :As part of continued drive to ameliorate the lives of locals and to outreach population in remote area, Indian Army at Doda organised Horse Race cum Medical and Veterinary Camp in the lush green meadows of Lal Darman, located in remote Bhagwah area of Doda district.
With the onset of summers, every year thousands of Gujjars and Bakkrwal from regions as far as Udhampur, Reasi, Anantnag, Jammu and Rajouri flock to green pastures of Lal Darman and areas around it. Indian Army has been organising the event since 2012 to address the grievances and mainstreaming the nomadic population. It took a week-long preparation and continued effort to organise this extremely popular event in the rugged terrain. More than 280 locals who had gathered from all over Doda district for the unique event.
Medical and Veterinary Camp was also organised simultaneously. A total of 126 adults and 21 children were provided free medicines and medical care during the conduct of medical camp. 241 Animals including 63 sheep, 174 cattle, and 04 dogs were also screened and provided medical care. 22 horse riders participated in the event & showered their riding skills. The camp was graced by Indian Army officers to motivate the migratory population.
Few officers of civil administration also visited the Lal Darman to witness the event & interact with the local population to address their grievances. The Gujjars & Bakkarwals were assured of continued support from Indian Army in ensuring their safety and uplifting standard of living. The festival was a grand success in line with promotion of tourism in the region as well as instil a spirit of sports in the youth of our region while fostering social and communal harmony.
