Poonch: Trees have famished us with two of life’s most important essentials, food and oxygen. As we evolved, they provided additional necessities such as shelter, medicine, and tools today, their value continues to increase and more benefits of trees are being discovered as their role expands to satisfy the needs created by our modern lifestyles. On the occasion of world Environment Day, the Indian Army undertook a commendable tree plantation drive in three different locations in Poonch District, reaffirming its commitment to environmental sustainability and community welfare.
The event witnessed active participation from Indian Army personnel, local residents, school children and civil administration officials creating a powerful symbol of unity and environmental consciousness.
Approx hundred saplings were planted across various Indian Army establishments and public spaces in the region, focusing on the species that are native to the area and beneficial for local ecosystems. This initiative aligns with the global theme of World Environment Day 2025, which emphasizes ecosystem restoration and combating climate change.
This initiative reflects the Indian Army’s broader vision of “mission Green”, aimed at promoting a cleaner and greener India. By involving local communities and instilling a culture of environmental stewardship the Indian Army is fostering resilience and sustainable development in the region.
