Indian Army Pays Homage to 2/Lt Ashok Prahladrao Mutgikar on Martyrs’ Day at Gajansoo War Memorial

Jammu: In a solemn and dignified ceremony, Chenab Brigade of Tiger Division commemorated Martyrs’ Day at the Gajansoo War Memorial, honouring the valour and ultimate sacrifice of Second Lieutenant Ashok Prahladrao Mutgikar, of 7 Grenadiers, who laid down his life in the line of duty during the Indo-Pak War of 1971 on 06 December 1971.

The event was organised to foster a culture of remembrance, respect, and national pride among serving personnel, veterans, and the local populace. The ceremony served as a heartfelt tribute not only to the fallen hero but also to the collective spirit of sacrifice embodied by the Armed Forces community.

Wreath laying to pay solemn homage to the brave officer whose courage and commitment continue to inspire generations. The event was graced by the presence of Lt Gen Rakesh Kumar (Retd), AVSM, SM, President of the Sainik Welfare Board, Jammu, who laid a wreath in tribute to the braveheart, representing the veteran fraternity. Havildar Tarsem Singh (Retd), District In-Charge of the Welfare Board, also paid floral respects on behalf of local veterans.

The ceremony witnessed the presence of approximately 104 ex-servicemen and six Veer Naris, who stood together in reverent silence to honour the memory of one of the nation’s brave sons. Their presence was a powerful reminder of the enduring bond between the serving and retired communities of the Armed Forces and the sacrifices shared by all in uniform and their families.

The event concluded with a tea and interaction session, where serving personnel, veterans, and Veer Naris engaged in warm dialogue, sharing stories of courage, camaraderie, and service. This interaction not only strengthened the civil-military connect but also reaffirmed the collective resolve to uphold the honour and traditions of the Indian Army.

The Indian Army continues to remain steadfast in its commitment to honour the legacy of its bravehearts and to serve as a bridge between the past and the present, carrying forward the torch of patriotism, duty, and selfless service.
