Leh/Jammu: The Indian Army rescued two critically ill South Korean mountaineers during a trekking expedition in Ladakh, officials said on Friday. Tragically, one of the climbers later succumbed to illness during treatment.
“On 4 September, two South Korean nationals fell critically ill near Kongmarula, a remote peak in Ladakh, during a mountaineering expedition,” the Fire and Fury Corps stated on X.
Army Aviation helicopters of the Fire and Fury Corps carried out a night-time Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) from an unprepared site at 17,000 feet, swiftly transporting the climbers to SNM Hospital in Leh for urgent medical care, the statement added.
The Fire and Fury Corps extended its condolences to the family of the deceased climber.
Note: CASEVAC refers to the rapid transfer of critically ill or injured individuals from hazardous locations to medical facilities for treatment.
