Indian Government Issues Security Alert for Millions of Android Users
The Indian government has issued a major security warning for millions of Android users following Google’s own admission of critical vulnerabilities. The alert comes after Google released a security bulletin highlighting several issues affecting billions of Android devices worldwide.
This month, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued a high-severity warning, stating that the vulnerabilities could allow attackers to access sensitive information or cause denial-of-service conditions on affected devices. Like previous alerts, these issues impact multiple manufacturers, which in turn puts consumers at risk.
Details of the Android Security Issue
According to the CERT-In bulletin, multiple vulnerabilities exist across Android due to flaws in several components, including the Framework, Android Runtime, System, Widevine DRM, Project Mainline components, Kernel, Arm components, Imagination Technologies, MediaTek components, Qualcomm components, and Qualcomm closed-source components.
These components make up a significant portion of the Android ecosystem. Vulnerabilities at the kernel level pose serious risks to both manufacturers and users, and Google has indicated that some of these flaws may have already been actively exploited.
Affected Android Versions
Google has confirmed that all current Android versions are vulnerable, including Android 13, 14, 15, and the latest Android 16. The vulnerabilities could potentially allow attackers to steal personal data from affected devices.
What Users Should Do
Google has already released a security patch that all Android users are advised to install immediately. The update is not limited to Pixel devices; brands such as Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi are expected to roll out their updates in the coming days.
To secure your device:
- Go to Settings on your phone.
- Scroll down to System Update.
- Check for a new update.
- Install the update and reboot your phone.
If the update is not yet available from your device manufacturer, wait a few days, as Google has provided the necessary AOSP setup for OEMs to distribute the patches. Installing the latest September 2025 security patch will protect your Android device from these vulnerabilities.
