NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday formally endorsed India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during its Special General Meeting (SGM) in the capital.

India has already filed an Expression of Interest, proposing Ahmedabad as the host city, and must submit its final bid documents by the August 31 deadline.

With Canada withdrawing from contention, India’s prospects of securing the Games have improved significantly. A Commonwealth Sport delegation, led by Director of Games Darren Hall, recently toured Ahmedabad to review facilities and meet Gujarat government officials. A larger delegation is expected to visit later this month.

The final decision on the host city will be made by the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow in late November. India last hosted the event in 2010, in New Delhi.
