NEW DELHI, Indian skeet shooters came up with dismal performances on the third day of qualification rounds with none of them in the men’s and women’s sections making it to the finals of the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Lonato here on Tuesday.
In men’s skeet, 49-year-old veteran marksman Mairaj Ahmad Khan — one of the senior-most shotgun shooters still competing professionally — had rounds of 24, 25, 24, 25, 23 over three days as he aggregated 121/125 to finish 34th.
Olympian Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (24, 24, 24, 23, 24) fired a 24 in his final effort to finish with 119 points and a 64th spot in a 176-strong field, while Bhavtegh Singh Gill also aggregated 119 (23, 25, 25, 25, 21) to finished 75th.
Vincent Hancock of the USA won gold with 26 in the final. He had aggregated 124 to top the qualification round. Daniel Korcak of the Czech Republic took the silver, shooting 24 in the title round, while compatriot Jakub Tomecek (24) bagged the bronze.
Women’s skeet shooter and Paris Olympian Maheshwari Chauhan shot scores of 24, 22, 22, 25, 23 to aggregate 116 and top among the Indians at 31st spot. (PTI)
Ganemat Sekhon came up with a below-par 20 out of 25 in the fifth and final round of qualification to also aggregate 116 (23, 25, 24, 24, 20) and finish 35th, while another Olympian Raiza Dhillon (22, 23, 24, 24, 22) totalled 115 to end up 40th in a field of 78 shooters.
Samantha Simonton, who aggregated 120 five rounds of qualification, shot 56 in the final to take the gold, while compatriot Dania Jo Vizzi (53) bagged the silver. Jiang Yiting of China (45) settled for the bronze.
