Apple’s AI ambitions have hit repeated roadblocks, and the company may now turn to an unlikely ally—Google—to power its future plans. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is in talks with Google to integrate its Gemini AI model into Siri, after delays and setbacks in rolling out its own AI features.
Apple had promised new AI capabilities with the iPhone 16 in 2024, even marketing them as a selling point. But while Google and OpenAI raced ahead with fresh tools, Apple has struggled to deliver, leaving users waiting.
The company has already partnered with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to iPhone and Mac users, though Apple has admitted that the chatbot requires external servers, raising privacy concerns. Reports also suggest Apple explored acquiring AI startup Perplexity before moving forward with other options.
If a deal with Google goes through, Gemini would run on Apple’s servers—helping the company maintain its privacy-first stance. Still, with the iPhone 17 launch approaching, insiders believe Apple is unlikely to announce any major AI breakthroughs just yet. Instead, users may need to wait for incremental updates as Apple recalibrates its AI strategy.
