Srinagar, 11 December 2025: The Jammu and Kashmir government has directed all urban local bodies to take immediate measures to secure schools, hospitals, stadiums and other public institutions from stray dogs amid rising concerns over dog‑related incidents in urban areas.
According to the directive, municipal bodies have been asked to identify vulnerable locations and implement safety measures to prevent stray dogs from entering premises frequently used by children, patients and the general public. The government has stressed the need for coordinated action to ensure public safety.
Urban local bodies have also been instructed to strengthen dog‑control mechanisms, including regular monitoring, deployment of teams for swift response and implementation of existing guidelines on stray dog management. Authorities have been told to work closely with educational institutions and health facilities to assess risks and put preventive measures in place.
The directive comes in the wake of repeated complaints from residents and institutions regarding the presence of stray dogs in sensitive public spaces. Officials said the move aims to reduce the risk of dog bites and create safer environments across towns and cities.
The government has asked all municipal bodies to submit compliance reports and ensure that necessary steps are taken without delay.
