Jammu,: District Magistrate Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, on Friday clarified that the recent order on vehicle modifications does not impose a blanket ban but only restricts unsafe alterations.
He explained that changes to a vehicle’s original dimensions or chassis, along with the use of tinted glasses, pressure horns, and bull guards, remain strictly prohibited in the interest of road safety.
However, cosmetic upgrades such as alloy wheels, paintwork, or other aesthetic enhancements are allowed, provided they comply with safety norms and legal provisions.
Drawing a comparison with building bylaws, Dr. Minhas said, “Just as one cannot alter the structure of a house but can change its color or fittings, the same principle applies to vehicles.”
The clarification, issued in consultation with traffic police, aims to ease concerns raised by traders and vehicle owners.
