Jammu: Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, yesterday chaired a meeting of the District Level Monitoring Committee to review the implementation of the action plan for improving air quality in the district and the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP).
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner of JMC, Regional Director of the Pollution Control Committee, Additional Deputy Commissioner, and Joint Commissioner of JMC.
During the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner was briefed on the expenditure of NCAP funds for 2024-25, along with sector-wise interventions aimed at reducing air pollution in the city. Key focus areas included comprehensive road paving for dust control, greenery development, mechanical road sweeping, greening of open areas and traffic corridors, and improving traffic junctions to ease congestion.
He was also informed about the involvement of schools and colleges in mass awareness and public outreach programs.
While reviewing the proposals for 2025-26, officials informed the Divisional Commissioner that Jammu Municipal Corporation has initiated 14 road improvement projects worth Rs 868.14 lakh and eight green space development projects costing Rs 721.26 lakh.
The new road projects include end-to-end pavement of various roads, laying concrete interlocking tiles, and beautification of garbage-prone areas. Green space initiatives focus on landscaping and construction of green strips along major roads.
Inquiring about the tendering process, the Divisional Commissioner directed officials to ensure the expeditious implementation of all projects, with emphasis on quality and timely completion. He also instructed them to ensure proper drainage along roads and the construction of water-soaking pits to prevent waterlogging.
