Jammu: In a remarkable display of teamwork, scientific investigation, and professional acumen, Jammu Police, South Zone, have solved the murder of a woman that was initially reported as a natural death, a breakthrough coming just a day after the visit of the Chairperson of the National Women Commission.
Sources said that acting swiftly and meticulously on available evidence, Police Station Bahu Fort, under the command of Inspector Sushil Choudhary, arrested the husband of the deceased, bringing closure to a case that had remained unreported for nearly a month. The investigation was conducted under the close supervision of SSP Jammu, with overall monitoring by SP South and SDPO East, ensuring a thorough and timely probe.
On 26 September 2025, Ms. Sabina Sunuwar, daughter of Akbar Khan of Dhol Wali Gali, Nai Basti, Jammu, lodged a written complaint regarding the suspicious death of her sister, Simriti Sunwar, wife of Tej Pal Singh of Mangnar, District Poonch, residing at Trikuta Nagar Extension, Jammu.
The complainant stated that on 26 August 2025, her brother-in-law Tej Pal Singh had taken his wife for alleged medical treatment. However, he returned the next day with her dead body and conducted a hurried cremation at Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground without performing a postmortem or informing law enforcement, allegedly to conceal evidence.
The complainant further alleged that the deceased had been subjected to cruelty, bore suspicious ligature marks on her neck, and that financial disputes existed between the couple over a new house purchase. Photographic evidence supporting these claims was submitted.
Based on the complaint, FIR No. 286/2025 U/S 103 BNS was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort. A professional investigation team, including the FSL team and crime photographer, inspected the rented accommodation and collected crucial evidence, while witness statements were recorded.
Following scientific examination and evidence analysis, the accused Tej Pal Singh was arrested on 27 September 2025 by Police Station Bahu Fort. The investigation is ongoing.
