Jammu: Police on Wednesday intensified outreach efforts across Jammu city, urging residents—especially traders and shopkeepers—to stay alert and report any suspicious movement. Authorities also appealed to the public to install CCTV cameras as part of a broader security initiative following Monday’s deadly explosion near the Red Fort metro station in Delhi, which killed at least 12 people and gutted several vehicles.

“We have asked people, particularly those running shops and business establishments, to remain vigilant. The drive aims to sensitise the public about security and cooperation,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Vikram Bhau after a series of meetings with local traders and transporters.

Police held interactions at the Jammu bus stand with shopkeepers, transporters, business owners, and street vendors to encourage vigilance and seek their assistance in reporting suspicious persons or unattended objects.

“We urge citizens and traders to install high-resolution CCTV cameras to strengthen surveillance. This will significantly help the police,” Bhau added.

Security forces have stepped up 24×7 patrolling, monitoring footage from dozens of cameras across the city. “We want people to act as our eyes and ears to help prevent any untoward incident,” the officer said, noting that CCTV systems have already been installed in key areas such as the bus stand.

“There is no need to panic,” he assured, “but the public must stay vigilant. Jammu Police is always at your service—please share any suspicious activity immediately.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General Shiv Kumar Sharma led police outreach drives across Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts to enhance alertness among both security forces and the public.

Security has been further tightened across the Jammu region, with increased vigilance along the Jammu–Srinagar national highway, railway tracks, and other sensitive installations. Enhanced security measures have also been put in place at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine and its base camp in Katra, officials said.

A high alert remains in force across the region.
