Jammu: The Jammu Railway Division has collected ₹32 lakh in fines from around 2,500 passengers caught travelling without tickets over the past 10 days of the festive season, a senior official said on Saturday.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said daily ticket-checking drives were carried out across the division to enhance passenger convenience and curb unauthorised travel.
On October 24 alone, penalties exceeding ₹7 lakh were imposed on about 1,200 ticketless travellers, he said.
According to official data, the intensive drive over the past ten days resulted in fines totalling more than ₹32 lakh from 2,500 offenders.
“Our focused efforts during the festive period have paid off, boosting revenue and ensuring a smoother travel experience for genuine passengers,” Singhal said.
He added that despite facing a shortage of ticketing staff, the newly formed Jammu Division has performed commendably well.
