JAMMU: Minister for Agriculture Production Department, Rural Development Department & PR, Cooperative and Election Department, Javed Ahmad Dar, today paid floral tributes to Dr. B R Ambedkar, describing him as one of India’s greatest social reformers and the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, during an event held at Bari Brahmana, Samba.
The function was organized by Dr. B R Ambedkar educational society which was attended by a huge gathering from Samba and adjoining areas.
While addressing on the occasion, the Minister said that Ambedkar jayanti is being celebrated as “equality day, highlighting the crucial role of Baba Saheb in fighting for the rights of Women, labour and oppressed communities of India.
He extolled that the celebration is a powerful reminder of high ethos of equality, fraternity and justice that continue to inspire the generations.
“The struggle of Baba Saheb’s life was not only for the welfare of a particular community but for the whole humanity, he added.
The Minister emphasised the need of ensuring unity among all segments of the society so that a collective fight can be launched against the prevailing social evils. He also stressed that Omar Abdullah government is committed to uplift all sections of the society and every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir is part of the government.
Professor Satnam Singh, from JNU, Rajni Bala and other prominent citizens also highlighted contribution of Baba Saheb in fighting for the rights of underprivileged especially the Dalits. He donned many hats but was above all a social reformer.
During the event, the Minister also awarded the meritorious students who had excelled in academic as well as extracurricular activities.
President Puran Chand, General Secretary Romesh Chander, Sansar Chand, Pushpa Raj, Jagdev Thappa, Chaman Khullar, Ashwani Gorkha, Manoj Kumar, Kasturi Lal, Darshan Thappa from the B R educational Society were present on the occasion.
