Javed Rana inspects efforts to restore water supply in flood-hit areas of Jammu city

SRINAGAR: In the wake of the recent floods in Jammu city and surrounding areas, Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, today chaired a high-level meeting to review ongoing water supply restoration efforts in the affected localities.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Chief and Superintendent Engineers of Jal Shakti (PHE and Mechanical), all Executive Engineers of PHE Jammu District, and the Executive Engineer of Ground Water, Jammu Division.

Discussions focused on both immediate relief and long-term strategies to ensure uninterrupted access to potable water for residents. The Minister underscored the need for swift, coordinated action to restore normalcy, taking stock of damages caused to water supply infrastructure by the heavy rains and floods.

Rana directed officials to ensure timely deployment of water tankers in areas where piped supply has been disrupted, emphasizing that no household should be left without safe drinking water. He also instructed expedited repair works and strict monitoring of water quality from tankers and alternate sources.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting residents during this crisis, the Minister urged officials to work in mission mode, maintain close coordination with local administration, and provide regular updates to the public.

Departmental officers briefed him on the challenges in restoring services, damage assessments across divisions, and contingency measures implemented. The Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation also updated the Minister on civic response efforts and inter-agency coordination.

Appreciating the field teams’ efforts, Rana called for continued diligence to ensure essential services are restored promptly.
