JAMMU: Tribal Affairs Minister Javed Ahmed Rana today conducted a detailed review of the Gujjar-Bakerwal PG Boys Hostel in Jammu, interacting with students and assessing existing facilities while identifying areas for improvement.

Accompanied by Director of Tribal Affairs Mohd Mumtaz Ali, the Minister announced several initiatives aimed at empowering students and supporting their personal and professional growth.

To enhance guidance and accessibility for tribal students preparing for competitive exams, Minister Rana directed the identification and selection of coaching institutes to provide specialized training for postgraduate students in Administrative Services and other competitive exams.

For academic advancement, the Minister announced that tablets would be provided to all PG students residing in the hostel. Director Tribal Affairs was tasked with submitting a proposal for this initiative, ensuring students have access to modern technology to support their learning.

Promoting physical fitness and recreation, Rana also committed to supplying sports kits to all hostel residents.

On infrastructure, the Minister stressed the urgent need for repairs and renovation, particularly of the drainage system, which was severely damaged in recent floods.

Additionally, the Minister reviewed the Aquaf land at Sunjawan, considering its suitability for constructing additional hostel accommodation to meet the growing demand for student housing.

A key highlight of the visit was the announcement of a Skill Upgradation Competition, to be held regularly, with inter-hostel contests scheduled every three months.
