POONCH: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today lauded the contributions of Maulana Ghulam Qadir Banday, a prominent figure of the Pir Panjal region, for his remarkable role in advancing socio-educational reforms.
Speaking to a distinguished gathering of civil society members, educationists, and religious scholars at the Jamia Zia Ul Uloom Group of Institutions in Poonch, the Minister hailed Maulana Banday as a visionary reformer and spiritual guide whose efforts in education have left a lasting impact on generations.
“Maulana Ghulam Qadir Banday Sahib is not only a religious scholar but also the Sir Syed Ahmad Khan of Pir Panjal,” Rana remarked, drawing a parallel with the renowned 19th-century Indian reformer.
The Minister highlighted Maulana Banday’s foresight in integrating Islamic learning with modern education, noting that his initiatives brought knowledge to a region once marked by isolation and educational backwardness.
“His dedication to girls’ education, at a time when it was often overlooked, reflected his progressive vision and deep commitment to societal transformation. His work empowered not only individuals but entire families and communities,” Rana added.
He further praised the Jamia Zia Ul Uloom, founded by Maulana Banday, as a beacon of learning in the Pir Panjal region. Under his guidance, the institution has nurtured scholars, civil servants, teachers, and professionals who continue to make meaningful contributions across Jammu & Kashmir and beyond.
