SRINAGAR: Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today chaired a high-level review meeting to evaluate the functioning and progress of Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) across Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on infrastructure, academics, staffing, and student welfare.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Tribal Affairs, principals of various EMRS institutions, and senior departmental officers.

Highlighting the transformative role of EMRSs, Rana emphasized that these schools play a key role in empowering tribal youth by providing inclusive and quality education. He underscored the need for strong infrastructure, adequate staffing, and essential facilities to ensure the holistic development of students and equal opportunities for all tribal learners.

During the session, the Minister reviewed the status of ongoing infrastructure projects under the approved Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). He urged the efficient utilization of sanctioned funds and stressed the timely completion of all construction works. Rana also directed officials to expedite pending land transfers for EMRS projects to avoid further delays.

On academics, Rana called for enhancing classroom teaching, strengthening co-curricular activities, and improving the overall learning environment. He examined student enrollment trends to ensure schools are operating at full capacity and effectively serving the target groups.

Regarding staffing, both academic and non-academic, the Minister emphasized that schools must be adequately equipped with human resources for smooth functioning. He directed immediate action to fill any staffing gaps that could impede the delivery of quality education and comprehensive student support.

Rana also reviewed residential facilities for students, instructing that all services be provided fully in line with recurring grant allocations. He stressed that hostels must offer a safe, comfortable, and conducive learning environment according to prescribed quality standards.

Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to strengthening EMRS institutions as centres of excellence for tribal education in J&K, Rana called for coordinated, time-bound efforts from all stakeholders to realize this vision.
