Swift Relief and Rehabilitation Assured
ANANTNAG: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, today conducted an extensive visit to flood-affected villages across Anantnag to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rains and floods.
Accompanied by legislator Abdul Majeed Bhat, the Minister toured the worst-hit areas, including Pushwara, Mir Danter, Khanabal, Nathpora, Harnag, Batengoo, Uranhall, Wanpoh, Larm, Hanji Danter, and surrounding localities. He engaged directly with residents, farmers, and community representatives, many of whom have suffered severe losses.
During the visit, Rana inspected damaged orchards, submerged vegetable fields, destroyed rice and maize crops, and affected infrastructure, including roads, bunds, bridges, homes, and government facilities. The widespread destruction has left hundreds of families distressed, with many reporting complete loss of livelihood.

Farmers informed the Minister that standing crops—including vegetables, pulses, rice, and maize—had been entirely washed away, while large areas of fertile farmland have become unsuitable for cultivation due to flooding.
Expressing deep concern, Rana assured residents that the Omar Abdullah-led government stands firmly with affected families. He emphasized that immediate relief, compensation, and rehabilitation efforts will be prioritized.
“The government is fully aware of the hardships caused by this disaster. Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and thousands of livelihoods depend on it. We are committed to providing timely support to all affected families and ensuring that farmers can recover and rebuild as quickly as possible,” Rana said.
He further stated that restoration of essential services—including drinking water, electricity, road connectivity, and healthcare—is being expedited in coordination with relevant departments. Rana also directed district administration and field officers to carry out rapid assessments of crop and infrastructure damages and ensure relief reaches affected households without delay.
Highlighting long-term planning, the Minister reiterated the government’s focus on building resilience, improving flood control measures, and strengthening support infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
