‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ Event Held at Gulmarg

BARAMULLA: The Directorate of Rural Sanitation organized the ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ event today at scenic Gulmarg to raise public awareness about the importance of cleanliness.

Javid Ahmad Dar, Minister for Agriculture Production, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election Departments, was the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, he stressed the need to maintain cleanliness to protect the environment for future generations. “Let us work together to safeguard our environment and ensure a healthy, prosperous future for our children,” he said.

The Minister highlighted that the event promotes sanitation awareness and encourages community participation in maintaining a clean environment. He noted that the theme, ‘Cleanliness for a Better Future’, aims to inspire collective action toward a greener and healthier tomorrow.

Urging citizens to play an active role in environmental sustainability, he emphasized that individual efforts, when combined, can bring significant positive change.

MLA Gulmarg, Farooq Ahmad Shah, underscored the importance of cleanliness and tree plantation drives, stressing their role in mitigating the impacts of climate change.

The event marked the beginning of a concerted effort to promote environmental awareness in the region, with active participation from local communities, government officials, and other stakeholders.

Notable attendees included DDC and Chairperson Baramulla, Safina Beigh; MLA Pattan, Javaid Riyaz Bedar; MLA Wagoora-Kreeri, Irfan Hafiz Lone; Director General, Rural Sanitation J&K, Anoo Malhotra; Director, Rural Development Department Kashmir, Shabir Hussain Bhat; Director Panchayati Raj J&K, Sham Lal; along with senior officers from the Rural Sanitation and Rural Development Departments.
