Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Saturday demanded a transparent explanation from the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) after the demolition of journalist Arfaz Daing’s house triggered sharp criticism. Choudhary said the JDA must clarify who approved the operation and under whose directions the team moved to the site.
Terming the incident “deeply concerning,” the Dy CM said that actions impacting citizens, especially journalists, must follow due process and cannot be carried out in a manner that raises questions about intent or authority. He asserted that accountability within government bodies is essential to maintain public confidence.
Choudhary further added that the administration would look into whether proper notices were served and if procedural guidelines were followed. He assured that no official would be allowed to act beyond their mandate. The incident has sparked demands from local organisations and media groups for an impartial probe.
Meanwhile, the family of Arfaz Daing said the demolition was sudden and left them distressed, claiming they were not given adequate time to respond. They urged the government to take strict action against those responsible. The matter continues to generate debate, with calls for a clear policy on enforcement actions to prevent such controversies in the future.
