Jio continues to grow its mobile subscriber base in the Indian market and its March 2025 data from TRAI shows its leading stature.
Reliance Jio continued to lead the Indian mobile sector by adding over 2.17 million subscribers in March 2025. Jio also managed to overpower its rivals by adding 2.17 million new subscribers out of the total 2.93 subscribers added in total across all operators.
The data released by the TRAI this week also shows Airtel gaining 1.25 million users while Vodafone Idea (Vi) continues to see the churn of users with the total subscriber base now at less than 21 million in the country.
But Jio’s big growth in March has helped the operator amass a total subscriber base of 469.7 million in the Indian market, followed by Airtel with 389.8 subscribers on its network.
As further highlighted by the TRAI data, the total wireless (which includes mobile, 5G and FWA) subscriber base has increased and Jio’s additions during the period were around 2x more than its closest rival. Jio has over 82 percent market share in the 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) segment with over 5.50 million subscribers as of March 2025.
Jio has also been adjudged as the fastest mobile operator in the country in 2024 according to data from Ookla. The operator now also caters to over 70 percent of the total market share in the telecom sector in India, and over 74 percent of these are included as the new subscriber additions.
